Image
It was quite an eventful month of August for Apple in terms of its shares. On August 2nd, the tech giant became  the first U.S. public company to earn a valuation of one trillion dollars . Some expected Apple to roll over and play dead after hitting the magic figure, but that wasn't the case at all. In light of the Associated Press revelations that Google pings your whereabouts even if you have turned off location tracking, it's important to know how to turn off Google's "scanning" practices once and for all. Have you noticed that, even though you told Google "no tracking" when setting up your phone, or disabled it in settings, you still get your apartment block down in Chrome, " based on your IP address, " or some such surprise? Well, that's because switching off Location History toggles, say, showing a trail of your movements in the Maps timeline, but you need to do more to eradicate those unsavory tracking practices. Here's what you need to do: 1. Go to your Google account settings on the desktop

Is Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 going to be the first 5G smartphone? Lin Ben, the company's CEO  teased a picture of the upcoming phablet , which wouldn't be such surprising if not for the enabled “5G” sign that can be seen in the status bar. Considering that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is expected to be  introduced on the market in October , it's quite unusual for it to include 5G support, as the latest reports claim the first 5G phones won't be ready until early 2019. The  Mi Mix 3  does seem to be a true bezel-less smartphone, but the sliding mechanism might not be on everyone's liking. Twitter is testing threaded messages and a status indicator

Image
Twitter is looking to be more conversational according to Sara Haider, Director of Product Management for the social media app. A tweet from the executive, which was re-tweeted by co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey, shows screenshots displaying two new features that Twitter is testing. One is the use of reply threading, which shows indented responses to tweets in a color coded enclosure.  The second feature being tested is a status indicator that tells users whether someone is currently on Twitter. This shows up in the form of a green dot on the user's profile picture. A status indicator on a site like Twitter could easily be misused though, and responses from several members was not positive. Some were concerned about their privacy, and said that they hoped that the status indicator would be an optional feature. Others, who might consider themselves targets of certain individuals or groups, felt that the green dot would open up their accounts to be blasted by mean spirited tw

The new UI is available on version 8.29 for both the Android and iOS variants of Skype, found in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store respectively. And Microsoft has launched a new website called Skype Ideas where you can submit your ideas for the Skype app. You can tell Microsoft how you think Skype can be improved by clicking on this  link .
